Common bittercress and our biochar

Plant Growth Enhancement Lab Trial

Plant type:

Common bittercress. Planted July 10, 2023.

Materials used:

A:  Control, no biochar.

B: Biochar with high surface area;

Application method:

The idea was to see the effect of very small doses of high quality biochar. In this case, we repeated an experiment where 86 kg high quality biochar was used per hectare (normally 10 tons common biochar per hectare), meaning less than 1%.

Location:

Berlin, controlled lab environment.

Results:

See images. Image 1 shows the seeds, image 2 + 3 show different growth (right with treatment, left control), image 4 shows the harvest: this time is control in the glass left, treated in the glass rght.

Image 1: Jul 10, ’23;   Image 2: Jul 20, ‘23.

Image 3: Jul 25, ’23;  Image 4: Aug 8, ‚23 (after harvest)

We conducted bittercress experiments due to quick results. The harvest was measured on a scale and showed a 55% increased crop yield compared to control without any biochar.
