Plant type: Quinalt Strawberries
Date: November 18, 2024
Location: Woodside, California.
Application method:
After three plantings/cycles of learning (from Feb to July), we tried to sneak in one more planting on 24 Aug, 2024, to “fine tune” our ratios of the ingredients. We didn’t expect much of a harvest, the days were getting shorter and the nights colder. For the strawberries, we did our final measurements after the first frost. These plants also suffered through a massive heat dome in Sept; surface temps were measured above 150 deg F at a nearby elementary school playground. All plants suffered, some worse than others. There were no blooms and no fruit, so the best we could do was to measure the height of the new growth, the number of leaves of new growth, and the relative size difference in the root balls.

Results:
Photos 1 and 2: New growth on the strawberry plants. Control (photo 1) new growth measured 5cm tall, and had 3 new leaves. New growth on the JBvol + BG treated plant (photo 2) measured 9cm tall, and had 9 new leaves. Thus new growth height is 9/5 or 1.8x taller, and leaf count is 9/3 or 3x more leaves/plant.
Photo 3: Comparison of root ball sizes. The control plant (photo 3 to the left) had a root ball volume of about 686 cm3 , while the JBvol + BG (poto 3 to the right) had a root ball volume of about 2200 cm3 , for a difference of about 3.2x larger root ball volume.
Conclusions: All of the plants with JB outperformed control, and JBvol outperformed JBarea. The addition of BG further increased height, leaf count and root ball size. Subjectively, the plants treated with BG suffered less during the heat dome in Sept. These results are in line with what we measured from this final planting of 2024, replicating results from the tomatoes and the peppers.
